A Roundtable Discussion featuring Moya Bailey (Northwestern), Brooklyne Gipson (UIUC), and AE Stevenson (USC)
Friday, May 19 at 3:00pm, Cobb 307
This roundtable will highlight misogynoir in a number of online and offline media landscapes. Misogynoir, as defined by Moya Bailey, “describes the uniquely co-constitutive racialized and sexist violence that befalls Black women as a result of their simultaneous and interlocking oppression at the intersection of racial and gender marginalization.” Bringing together three leading scholars in Black feminism, this roundtable will illuminate the bridge between communications, cinema and media studies, and information studies to emphasize the libidinal economy of misog-ynoir and its orchestrating effects on society. Organized by AE Stevenson, who will be joining the faculty in Cinema and Media Studies at the University of Chicago in Fall 2023.
This event is presented in partnership with the Department of Cinema and Media Studies and the Center for the Study of Gender and Sexuality.
